Big Plans on the Hard Left for November 4
One thing overlooked in the uproar over Charlottesville is that this was, evidently, merely a dress rehearsal for a much larger-scale effort planned for this Autumn. Activist groups on the left evidently have something big in store for November 4th. The idea seems to be a revival of the 1971 “Days of Rage” – an effort to shut down the country as a whole to force a change in government.

Report: Bannon ready for war with “Democrat” White House; Update: With Drudge too?
First, can we dispense with the nonsense that Bannon resigned two weeks ago? If that were true he would have leaked it to Breitbart and had them break the news, to emphasize that he determined his own fate. With Drudge, who’s been hostile to Bannon lately, and the NYT breaking it instead, it’s easier to believe that Bannon was fired, as CNN claims.

Trump disbands manufacturing council
Yesterday he taunted Merck CEO Kenneth Frazier that anyone who quits the council could be easily replaced. Today he’s liquidating the council entirely. Why not invite small business leaders to fill the seats vacated by corporate titans? Or are there none who would risk it at this point?

Opinion

How Anti-White Rhetoric Is Fueling White Nationalism
White people are being asked—or pushed—to take stock of their whiteness and identify with it more. This is a remarkably bad idea.

State legislatures making progress on major issues that are still stuck in Congress
State legislatures around the country have made significant progress passing bills on issues such as immigration, policing and healthcare, even as Republicans in Congress and President Trump have struggled to make similar progress at the federal level.

Elizabeth Warren Is Determined to Drive the Democrats Off a Far-Left Cliff
While the media may be focusing on crises real or perceived within the Trump administration, the Democrats are involved in a real struggle that gets almost no mention. This is because the MSM are advocates for the Dems and are loathe to acknowledge that the party was slaughtered electorally during the Obama years and has a bench for 2020 that’s thinner than Bill Clinton’s claims to marital fidelity.

All About White Supremacists

I Went to Charlottesville During the Protests. Here’s What I Saw.
I picked quite a time to go on a weekend trip to Charlottesville. What was supposed to be a nice getaway with my wife turned into a journey through the eye of a national media storm.

Sorry, Google, But There’s No Such Thing As “Scientific” Values
Science-based thinking is a valuable tool: it tells us what we can do. But it cannot say a word about what we ought to do.

Why Trendy Math Instruction That Focuses On “Understanding” Often Cheats Kids
Ultimately, extended exercises in “math understanding” simply become new procedures, which small children attempt to memorize because that is what many small children do.

Statues of Limitation
So we seem to be on our way to tearing down every statue related to the Democratic Party’s largest achievement in American history—the Confederate States of America. Funny how the Confederate battle flag, and now statues, didn’t start to come down until Republicans became ascendant in southern states. Democrats who had a monopoly grip on the South for decades had lots of time to take these steps, but didn’t. You’d almost think they were opportunists.

The “Peanuts” Football Trick Explains Why Conservatives Keep Quiet About White Supremacy
It shouldn’t come as a surprise when those who are invited to partake in supposed interfaith dialogue refuse to play a game they know is rigged against them.

Where Is the Corporate Disavowal of Black Lives Matter?
Liberal business executives are leaping like lemmings from President Donald Trump’s manufacturing advisory council. Good riddance.

On the Alt-Right and the “Alt-Left”
In one of his several press appearances addressing last weekend’s events in Charlottesville, President Trump asked, “What about the ‘alt-left’?” – a question that a few on the right have taken up, along with the label. A quick thought.

Destroying Symbols: Where Does It End?
What about the Washington Monument or Monticello? And what about that Lenin statue in NYC?

What Do We Say About Decent Men Who Died for a Wicked Cause?
Southern slaveholders were rapists. We know this because only 73% of the DNA of African-Americans is African; the rest is Caucasian with a small fraction of Native American. Most of the admixture of DNA, a McGill University study concludes, occurred before the Civil War, that is, when slaveholders and their white employees could use female slaves at will. Keep that in mind the next time Foghorn Leghorn sounds off about the honor of Southern womanhood. To own slaves is wicked; to rape female slaves and sell one’s children by them is disgusting in the extreme. Yet that is what the Old South did, and the DNA evidence proves it.

The Flight 103 Presidency
2017 is year one of the Flight 103 presidency: if the plane crashes, the entire airline is going down with it. It may go down anyway. You – or the leader of your party – may win a court battle over responsibility only to find out your brand has suffered irreparable damage. There are no guarantees.

Confederate Statues and the Bronze Soldier of Tallinn
I sympathize with the objections to keeping statues of the leading Confederate figures on public land, not least when they are in a prominent place. It’s not difficult to see why those who want to get rid of them are so determined to do so, most importantly, of course, due to the real nature of the Lost Cause, but also because of the war’s long, long afterlife after the end of Reconstruction, an afterlife that has barely drawn to a close. It’s equally easy to understand—although in my view they have the weaker argument— why many locals have rallied to the defense of what they see as their heritage—even if that heritage is often represented by statues erected decades after war they supposedly commemorate (that they had another message is difficult to deny).

Cut Down the Jungles!
I sometimes like to muse that nearly all the trouble and confusion of the modern era comes from the obfuscations of nomenclature.

Nazis Support Abortion, Gun Control, And Speech Codes. That Describes The Left
At every level, the beliefs and goals of the white supremacist, alt-right, Nazi movement directly oppose conservatism.

Make Mine Freedom
In the wake of the events in Charlottesville, and the national mass hysteria that the media has been trying its best to promote — to turn two groups of unpleasant people doing unpleasant things into a national emergency — I’ve found myself in some very odd arguments.
